Go to Apache dir

	
cd /var/www/html


Create a seperate subdirectory in Apache dir
	

mkdir journals

	cd journals


Create the .htaccess file and insert contents:

	
AuthType Basic

	AuthName "Restricted Files"

	# (Following line optional)

	AuthBasicProvider file

	AuthUserFile /var/www/passwd/passwords

	Require valid-user


Go to /var/www/ and create new directory called passwd


	cd ../../

	mkdir passwd

	cd passwd


Create password for users entered in .htaccess to make new .htpasswd file, using -c to clear if needed


	htpasswd -c .htpasswd <user>


If there are multiple users, use command for each, but without -c


	htpasswd .htpasswd <user2>


Enter password twice to finish implementing password protection for user account(s).
